New OSAGO Rules Now in Effect: A Step Toward Safer Roads

As of January 1, updated regulations for Mandatory Motor Third-Party Liability Insurance (OSAGO) have come into force in Uzbekistan. These changes are already having a visible impact on both the insurance market and the culture of responsibility among road users.

The key update is the increase of the maximum compensation limit to 80 million UZS. This measure transforms OSAGO into a truly effective financial protection tool. Given current vehicle repair costs — where even minor damage can require significant expenses — insurance coverage has now become aligned with the real scale of accident-related losses.

The increase in limits also delivers a broader systemic effect:

  • fewer post-accident disputes;
  • reduced financial pressure on drivers’ personal funds;
  • responsibility shifting from a formal requirement to a practical protection mechanism.

Policy pricing has been adjusted to approximately 160,000 UZS in the regions and 192,000 UZS in Tashkent. Despite this revision, OSAGO in Uzbekistan remains one of the most affordable mandatory insurance products in the region.

Imkon sug’urta OTP Group considers the OSAGO reform an important step toward building a more mature insurance market and improving road safety. The new framework requires more accurate risk assessment, transparent claims settlement, and a higher standard of service, thereby strengthening overall system quality and public trust.

It is also important to highlight the role of the National Agency for Perspective Projects (NAPP), whose systematic efforts enabled the development and implementation of these reforms. Regulatory modernization, digitalization, and a focus on protecting vehicle owners’ rights are laying a solid foundation for long-term sustainable development.

Safer roads begin with rules that work. The updated OSAGO system is an important part of this transformation.
